Create Superior Quality Compost

In 60 days or less, Without Turning!

What is Composting?

Composting is the biologic transformation of raw organic materials into stable, humus-rich substances suitable for growing plants.

Aerated Composting includes the addition of fresh air (Oxygen), which optimizes the composting process and produces a safe product that is free of pathogens, parasites and weed seeds.

Aerated Composting is elegant in its simplicity and is the perfect solution to a significant environmental problem.

Method of Composting

All O2Compost systems utilize the Aerated Static Pile Method of Composting (also referred to as ASP Composting).  Simply stated, this means that we induce airflow through the compost pile to stimulate microbial activity and to eliminate the need for pile turning.

All of our compost systems eliminate adverse impacts to surface water and ground water resources and satisfy regulatory requirements for a “Best Management Practice”.

Benefits of Composting

Composting is an ideal way to protect the environment, improve horses’ health, and improve the farm’s bottom line!

An O2Compost system will enable you to:

  • Produce finished compost in 60 days or less!
  • Eliminate adverse impacts to surface water and ground water resources;
  • Destroy parasites, pathogens and weed seeds in the finished product;
  • Eliminate offensive odors, and thereby improve neighbor relations;
  • Significantly reduce flies, rodents and other pests;
  • Improve your horses’ health and overall wellbeing;
  • Create a nutrient-rich product that is safe to use on pastures and gardens
  • Eliminate the time and expense of off-site disposal;
  • Earn a profit by selling your finished compost to people in your community; and
  • Improve the value of your farm or business.

The Composting Process

All O2Compost Systems utilize a three step process, including: 1) filling the compost bin; 2) Active Composting; and 3) Curing.

·         Each compost bin is sized to accommodate 3 to 4 weeks worth of manure and soiled bedding.  The manure is added daily, and the airflow is started when the bin is full and covered with a 6-inch layer of finished compost for insulation and odor control.

·         The Active Phase of composting is a bacterial driven process that generates a considerable amount of heat.  We utilize this heat to destroy parasites, pathogens, and weed seeds in the mix.  The active phase of composting lasts approximately 30-days.

·         The subsequent Curing Phase is a fungal driven process that reduces the compost mix to a more uniform, soil like texture. The curing phase takes approximately 30- to 60-days to produce finished compost.

The Learning Curve

While the three steps described above may seem a bit complicated, learning to compost typically takes only one or two batches to develop full confidence in the procedure.  As an integral part of the O2Compost system, operator training and troubleshooting are provided.

Compost System Design

All of the O2Compost systems induce airflow from the base of the compost pile up through the mix of materials.  With this in common, every O2Compost system is unique to our client’s specific needs, the site topography and the project budget.

Size of the Compost System

The size of the compost system is a function of the volume of manure and soiled bedding that is generated.  As a rule of thumb, one horse produces approximately 1 cubic yard of manure per month.  Add to this the amount of bedding that is in the mix, and then multiply this unit volume by the number of horses on the farm.

With the O2Compost System, we will help you accurately determine the volume of manure that you generate on your farm.
